so this is the new year and i don't feel any different.

i've said that line jan 1st of the last 5 or 6 years, and just when i almost break tradition my blog snaps me back into it.

i spent my nye in auberry at the music farm with my femfam. we spent our days hiking, cooking each other AMAZING meals (like spinach, zucchini enchiladas, apricot brie, and breakfast for lunch). at night we played boardgames and shuffleboard, huddled around the fire in the living room, and watched the lake freeze under a beautiful blue moon. not to mention the musical stylings of bluegrass from the music farmers just after midnight. oh yes, and we got to visit the redwoods we planted last year; once just seeds, they now inhabit their own pots! all in all it was an AMAZING trip and the best way to start the new year, again. i made quite a few resolutions which i really need to jot down because i want to try and keep all of them. i had two i shared with the ff, so here i'll share a primary resolution of mine:

- live minimally and modestly; i grew up in a financially modest household. my parents never encouraged us to live beyond our means, avoiding branding us as children, this is something i am eternally grateful for. i had a brief lapse in this minimalist approach to possessions when i moved out for college. my parents gave me a generous monthly allowance, and rather than save it i spent it... every cent, each month for four years. entering my fifth year i felt incredibly guilty for my spending and started stashing and a year later this stash is dwindling upon my unemployment. although i am asking for my job back (long story), i feel smothered in my home. i have three bookshelves double stuffed with books, an entertainment system crammed to the brim with dvds i've watched once since 2000, and archaic technology like a mini-tv with vcr and cds. yes, cds. in attempt to soothe my financial ailments, i've decided to begin selling my possessions. rather than ebay, i plan on posting pictures of items on my personal fb for friends to claim and then come pick up. although i won't make much, i'll be freeing room in my living space, visiting with old friends, and paying half my gas bill.
