alzheimer's unemployment and asians

watching cnn this morning a segment on alzheimer's comes on. my ears perk as the newscaster says she's going to look at alzheimer's and minorities: 1 in 10 white people will get it; 1 in 4 latino; 1 in 3 blacks; and they think it's due to socioeconomic levels. i sat yelling at the tv "what about asians?!". but what about asians? are we not a minority anymore? (we are). are we unaffected by alzheimer's? (we're not). or are we just unworthy of representation on tv, radio, film, etc? (it seems so). i guess the real reason i'm so upset of this omission is that... my grand father had debilitating alzheimer's and dementia that lead to an untimely death- and he was asian.

and now cnn is covering the impact of the current unemployment statistics on white men. blue collar white men are projected to be the most influenced by unemployment... their identity is "gone" and they "don't know if they're going to get it back". so it sounds to me that white men will have problems without starting from a point of privilege, bc white men are suddenly minority members without the title, pointing to the influence of money. class privilege still impacts men's experiences, but gender is no longer considered a privilege in blue collar positions (again, unlikely). oh, this just in, while blue collar white men are incredibly affected by unemployment, there is still no word on how asians are coping.
