i've moved 6 times in the last 10 years, and some of those had been pretty hasty endeavors. typically i'd have a few boxes of unorganized mementos that would not be opened until they were filled to the brim each subsequent move. my dad has my garage packed with boxes of clothes from his and my mom's house, loads of junk i'd left in my cars before he sold them, and all of the warmups and uniforms from the lovely years i spent as a member of the pv breakers, coastal quest, and south bay force soccer clubs. i'm known to get a bit weepy over, well, anything remotely sentimental, but this time i kept my composure, and enjoyed this time capsule all the same. i found the funniest journals from when i was a 14 year old lovesick puppy,
the first bag i made by myself, a l.a.m.b. bag i had thought i'd relinquished in a past breakup, piles of handmade bracelets my dad brought me back from mexico 6 years ago, pose pix of me and erika from hs, my grandparents luggage tags, and my favorite gold necklace i thought i lost in isla vista at an amazing prom party for nicoco almost 6 years ago.
organizing is therapeutic, and now that i know my days will be filled with internships and class, it makes it even more necessary that i get this done now. all the goodies i'm not holding on to are going to be starring in the clothing swap i'm holding over two weekends at my apartment. hopefully, but maybe not, the first of many.
